They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon. For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me. And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another. In what place therefore ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for us. So we laboured in the work: and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared.

Nehemiah 4:17-21

Last week, we talked about the Jews who had returned to Israel, following the refining fire sent by God to purify his remnant. In today’s verse, we see that in the rebuilding phase, security was a major concern. The people who had survived the assault and exile all had to pull double duty, working on the wall and being ready to engage in a fight at a moment’s notice. Unlike the foolish leaders who had been swept away during the fall, Nehemiah recognizes Israel’s dependence on God to fight for them, as well as their responsibility to have a constant security force posted around the camp.

It’s easy to identify the specific needs of a retreat or camp in a post-apocalyptic landscape after the event has happened. But for us, who are still awaiting the Refiner’s fire to sweep through our nation, it’s difficult to know the nature of the event. Will the Refiner’s fire come in the form of an EMP, a financial collarless, or a foreign invasion? Many of the steps towards being prepared are similar for all possibilities. And two common denominators present in all large-scale disasters are mentioned in today’s verses. The first is the need for security. This requires weapons, ammunition, personnel, training, and communications. And the second, which is always present whether we recognize it or not, our absolute dependence on God.

Jesus said “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his own soul?” Prepper translation: “What good will it do you to survive the coming economic collapse, nuclear war, or even a zombie apocalypse if you don’t know you will go to heaven when you die.” A recent study found that 10 out of 10 people die! On that day we will meet our Maker. It only makes sense to be prepared for that day. Click here to learn more about knowing GOD.

Have a blessed day and happy prepping!
