Sunday Prepper Bible Study- Going Against God

The LORD is slow to anger and great in power; the LORD will not leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet.” Nahum 1:3

Going against God never turns out well in the Bible. The prophet Nahum prophesied against the great city of Nineveh and accurately predicted their total destruction.

“The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him, 8 but with an overwhelming flood he will make an end of [Nineveh]; he will pursue his foes into darkness.” Nahum 1:7

Yes, this is the same Niniveh that the prophet Jonah so reluctantly called to repentance about 150 years earlier. The people repented of their sin, turned to God and he spared the great city. Nineveh was the capital of the Assyrian empire which was the global super power of the day. It is said that the walls were so thick around the city that chariot races were held on top of the walls. The residents of Nineveh imagined that the city was impregnable to foreign invasion. Can you think of any countries whose citizens place all of their faith in their military might and security? The city was a three day walk from one side to the other.

Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder, never without victims!  The crack of whips, the clatter of wheels, galloping horses and jolting chariots!  Charging cavalry, flashing swords and glittering spears! Many casualties, piles of dead, bodies without number, people stumbling over the corpses—  all because of the wanton lust of a harlot, alluring, the mistress of sorceries, who enslaved nations by her prostitution and peoples by her witchcraft.” Nahum 3:1-4

I think the most applicable lesson America can glean is the fact that this great city went from a state of true repentance and following God after Jonah’s “40 days and then destruction” speech to a backslidden state that brought on total annihilation by God’s judgment in the course of about 150 years. It only took a couple of generations for the city to totally forget God and turn to other gods. Let’s all try to say a prayer each day this week for our country. Pray that God would turn the hearts of our leaders to himself and pray that parents will remind their children of the rich Christian heritage of this country.

If you are new to prepping or would like to learn more about how to prepare for tomorrow, please read our 7 Step Preparedness Plan. The most important prep of all is knowing GOD. Jesus said “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his own soul?” Prepper translation: “What good will it do you to survive the coming economic collapse, nuclear war or even a zombie apocalypse if you don’t know you will go to heaven when you die.” A recent study found that 10 out of 10 people die! On that day we will meet our Maker. It only makes sense to be prepared for that day. Click here to learn more about knowing GOD.

Have a blessed week and happy prepping!
