silver

“Your silver has become dross, your choice wine is diluted with water.”

-Isaiah 1:22

Today’s Bible verse will be the second in a series of verses from Isaiah 1. In Isaiah 1, God is calling Israel to account for their sins in forsaking him. Through the prophet Isaiah, He points out what they have done and what the effects and consequences are. Check out last week’s post to follow this study from the beginning.

I know this verse was written for Israel, but it is impossible to deny the similarities between ancient Israel’s path and that of America. They have both traveled the road of being  a nation ruled by God to being a nation that sought to distance themselves from their Creator.

Of all the prophetic verses in the Bible, this one  has such a clear application to America. The Hebrew word for silver is keceph and is also the same word they used for money. Prior to 1964, America also used silver for money. In fact, all of our coins were 90% silver. 10% copper was added to silver coins to add strength to the metal and keep them from scratching and tarnishing as easily. 10% copper was also added to US gold coins prior to 1933 to make them more resistant to wear and scratching as well.

Two metals that are officially labeled as dross are tin and zinc. Both are used along with copper and nickle to make modern US coins. The US silver dollar was once 90% silver. US one dollar coins are now made of  copper, zinc and manganese and nickel. So quite literally, our “silver” has become “dross.”

As for our choice wine being diluted with water, that may have a bit more symbolic application. I think it can be seen in the quality of consumer goods in America. Once, American made products were the best that money could buy. Now, most manufacturing has been outsourced, the labor participation rate it at a 40 year low and the quality of imported consumer goods is so poor that we view everything as disposable. It is as if our choice wine is diluted with water.

If you are new to prepping or would like to learn more about how to prepare for tomorrow, please read our 7 Step Preparedness Plan. Come back every Sunday for a new Prepper Bible Study! The most important prep of all is knowing GOD. Jesus said “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his own soul?” Prepper translation: “What good will it do you to survive the coming economic collapse, nuclear war or even a zombie apocalypse if you don’t know you will go to heaven when you die.” A recent study found that 10 out of 10 people die! On that day we will meet our Maker. It only makes sense to be prepared for that day. Click here to learn more about knowing GOD.

Have a blessed day and happy prepping!
