Sunday Prepper Bible Study- Perseverance

Luke 8:14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

As Christians, it is easy to get bogged down with the hustle and bustle of day to day life. It seems that all the technology we have created to save us time has left us busier than ever before. All of this running around leaves us with little time left over to spend on spiritual pursuits like reading the Bible or prayer.

In today’s Bible verse, we see that the seed sown among the thorns is choked out. It never develops to be what it was intended to be. The first issue those folks had were worries. It is easy to get caught up in worrying about what may happen, especially with all of the proverbial black swans we have encircle over our head right now. I still believe it is prudent to take some time to prepare for the events that may have a catastrophic impact on our lives. But once you have done your part to prepare, leave the rest up to God. Do your best then let God do the rest.

The next  issue that kept the seed from growing to maturity was riches. Of course we all need to work hard to provide for ourselves, after all the Bible also says in 2 Thessalonians 3:10 “if a man will not work, he shall not eat.” But be content with what God blesses you with and make sure you are taking a day of rest. Even if your job requires you to work on Sunday, set aside a day off that you can rest and spend some time with God.

Finally, the last issue interfering with the seeds growth was pleasures. Maybe you are diligent about taking your day of rest, but for you, that day is spent on the golf course or out on the boat rather than in church. It is great to get out and relax, just make sure you are not doing it at the expense of your spiritual development.

The seed that was able to mature and produce a good crop is said to have done so through perseverance. To grow spiritually, we must persevere by making a priority out of spending time with God. rather than giving God the leftovers, why not start each day with a few verses in  the Bible and a few minutes of prayer. It will start your day of on the right track. While your commuting, gardening or on the treadmill, listen to a sermon by your favorite pastor on mp3. Don’t have a favorite pastor? Then i’ll share mine with you. All of Pastor Chuck Smith’s sermons are available for a free download at TWFT.com.

If you are new to prepping or would like to learn more about how to prepare for tomorrow, please read our 7 Step Preparedness Plan. The most important prep of all is knowing GOD. Jesus said “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his own soul?” Prepper translation: “What good will it do you to survive the coming economic collapse, nuclear war or even a zombie apocalypse if you don’t know you will go to heaven when you die.” A recent study found that 10 out of 10 people die! On that day we will meet our Maker. It only makes sense to be prepared for that day. Click here to learn more about knowing GOD.

Have a blessed week and happy prepping!
