Sunday Prepper Bible Study- Spiritual Freedom
“But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:18-23
Freedom is great, but spiritual freedom is even greater. Your freedom can be threatened or even taken away by an oppressive government or police state, but your spiritual freedom comes from the inside. No one can take that away from you, If you loose it, it is only because you gave it away yourself.
Freedom does not mean you are free to do whatever you want. Your freedom ends where the next citizen’s freedom begins. My freedom to live on the welfare of the state is not true freedom because it requires tyranny to steal from the mouth of the diligent in order to provide me with my “free lunch”.
Similarly, spiritual freedom does not mean you are free to do what ever you want. If you decide to indulge in the lusts of the flesh, their is a loss of freedom. If you don’t believe me, ask anyone who has escaped addiction if they were free when they were using. Ask any alcoholic, gambler or porn addict who have escaped from the clutches of their particular destructive behavior if they were free when they indulged their flesh. But once you have escaped those behaviors through the power of Christ, you are free indeed!
In a recent Prepper Recon Podcast, James Wesley Rawles talked about the importance of getting free of addiction before the collapse. Addiction will consume your valuable resources. You may be able to get by without the $10 or $20 bucks now, but after the collapse, every asset may be precious and necessary just to stay alive. Escaping addiction is never easy, whether it is cigarettes or meth. But it will be much easier now than after the collapse. God stands ready to help you if you truly want to be free.
In my book, American Exit Strategy, Book One of The Economic Collapse Chronicles, one of the main characters is a marine who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He returns home and is unable to deal with the anger, guilt and sadness and turns to drugs. After hitting rock bottom, he goes to a Christ centered rehabilitation center called Teen Challenge where he learns the depth of God’s love for him. Teen Challenge is a real rehabilitation center that helps people of all ages escape the trap of addiction through Christ. If your struggle is more than you can handle on your own, visit Teen Challenge on line to find a center near you.
If you are new to prepping or would like to learn more about how to prepare for tomorrow, please read our 7 Step Preparedness Plan. The most important prep of all is knowing GOD. Jesus said “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his own soul?” Prepper translation: “What good will it do you to survive the coming economic collapse, nuclear war or even a zombie apocalypse if you don’t know you will go to heaven when you die.” A recent study found that 10 out of 10 people die! On that day we will meet our Maker. It only makes sense to be prepared for that day. Click here to learn more about knowing GOD.
Have a blessed week and happy prepping!
