If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:6-9
This week’s section of scripture echoes the same lesson as what we studied last week. It speaks of this concept that while we still sin, our lives are no longer characterized by sin. We walk in the light by seeking to please God through living holy lives. And once again, this isn’t accomplished in our own strength. We do it by walking in the light.
And what does it mean to walk in the light? Jesus said in John 8, “I am the light of the world.” So, we walk in Jesus. Is that still a little too abstract for you? Okay. John 1 says the Word became flesh and lived among us. So, God’s Word and Jesus become synonymous in that verse. If you are reading your Bible every day, and applying it to your life, you are walking in the light!
Psalm 119 says “thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”. This is an Old Testament reference to the same principle. God’s Word is the light that we are to walk in.
If you haven’t yet developed the discipline of reading your Bible every day, you are not walking in the light. Even if you go to church every Sunday, at best, by Friday, you’re walking in the dim afterglow from five days prior. And at worst, you’re in an apostate church that is feeding you a bucket of hogwash, because you’ve never read the Book for yourself and have no idea whether that preacher is faithfully representing God’s Word or not.
And I’ve got news for you. Most preachers are not correctly representing the Word. There’s no way abortion could have stayed on the books for over four decades in a nation where God’s people were being instructed by their spiritual leaders to take a stand at the ballot box for the unborn.
So read the Bible for yourself this week. If you have trouble understanding it, ask God to give you eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart that understands. If you don’t know where to start, read through the New Testament, then read through the Old. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and provides the light you need to navigate this life in a way that is pleasing to your Messiah.
Jesus said, “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his own soul?” Prepper translation: “What good will it do you to survive the coming economic collapse, nuclear war, or even a zombie apocalypse if you don’t know you will go to heaven when you die.” A recent study found that 10 out of 10 people die! On that day we will meet our Maker. It only makes sense to be prepared for that day. Click here to learn more about knowing GOD.
Have a blessed day and happy prepping!
