Prepper Recon

And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places. And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that [was] the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar. In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.

1 Kings 3:3-5

The Book of Leviticus gave specific details about how God’s people were to worship him. Every little detail was covered and it did not include making sacrifices and burning incense in high places. Nevertheless, King Solomon did so. And what’s more, God honored his sacrifices and appeared to Solomon in a dream.

I find this story absolutely perplexing. What is the lesson here? I think the lesson is, that God looks at the motivation of the heart. It seems he is more concerned with a person’s attitude toward him than whether that person legalistically follows the law to the letter. It is possible to get so caught up in the rules and regulations that we miss out on the love. So, let us purpose in our hearts to love God, above all else. After all, Jesus said loving God with all of your heart, soul and mind, is the most important commandment.

So is that the end of the lesson? I don’t think so. I seem to recall Paul telling young Timothy to pay careful attention to his doctrine. Let’s take another look at King Solomon. As he continued throughout his life, he persisted in doing things his own way. Deuteronomy 17 says the king shouldn’t buy many horses, and that he shouldn’t buy them from Egypt. What does 2 Chronicles 1 tell us about King Solomon’s horses? It says there were a lot of them, and guess where he bought them. That’s right, Egypt! Deuteronomy 17 says the king should not have many wives. Solomon had 700 and 300 concubines. I don’t know what your definition of “many wives” is, but I bet it’s less than 700. Deuteronomy 17 says the king should not amass silver and gold. Solomon seemed to get the silver part right, but only because he’d gathered so much gold in his palace that silver was seen as completely worthless. And after all of this, Solomon began to worship foreign gods, one of the sins that breaks God’s heart more than anything. As a result, the Kingdom of Israel was split in two, dividing it into the northern kingdom and the southern kingdom. Just as the entire nation was blessed because of Solomon’s passion for God in his early years, they were all cursed after his reign, because of his neglect and his choice to do things his own way.

Today’s verse doesn’t get the attention it deserves. It’s paramount that we remember this verse and meditate on it’s meaning. Too many churches are presenting a seeker-friendly message meant to appeal to the masses and have completely glossed over the God who will some day judge the quick and the dead. Regardless of how good of a life you live, when you see Him face to face, you will have a whole new understanding of the fear of the Lord. Isaiah cried out, “Woe is me, for I am undone.” John fell at his feet as though dead, and when your day comes, you’ll be shaking in your shoes.

We don’t fear an angry God who is out to destroy us, at least not if we have repented and have been washed by the blood of the Lamb. However, we should have a very healthy respect for a God that is all powerful, all mighty, and so holy.

Electricity isn’t something we have to walk around in constant fear of, but it is very powerful and exceedingly dangerous if not respected. Would you fail to warn your children about sticking metal forks in electrical outlets because you don’t want to hurt their feelings? Of course not, but that is exactly what the apostate church does when it fails to teach about the consequences of sin against an all-mighty, powerful God.

And where has that brought us? As a nation, we have arrived at such a position that our people are filled with a false sense of security concerning God, his requirements, and his wrath. So what shall we do?

Let us all pray that God will bless America. But let us not pray for the temporary blessings of peace and prosperity that will lead us further down the path of false security, but let us pray for blessing to come as the fear of the Lord. Let us pray that He will guide us back to a place where His Word and his Way are respected and honored in this country, by any means necessary. Then, brace for the impact!

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;  Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

The folks in West Virginia are among the many Americans who have been shaken to the core recently. Fires in California, and floods in Texas have also left thousands without a home and without hope. As the body of Christ, it is our duty to reach out to those people and offer them the source of our hope, which is eternal salvation through the blood of Jesus.

James asks, “If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?” In our ministry to those in need of comfort, it is our duty to meet their physical needs as well as their spiritual needs.

God has opened a door of opportunity for my wife and I to go serve in West Virginia, along side Samaritan’s Purse. I’m not sure what the internet connection will be like at the facility where we will be staying, so if posts are a little late this week, you’ll know why.
