Ammunition Depot’s Scott Blick on Ammo as an Alternative Currency

Scott Blick from Ammunition Depot stops by today to talk about the ammunition market. Ammunition Depot hold the largest ammunition inventory in the South. Availability is starting to normalize, but demand stays high according to Scott.  He tells us that supply remains tight and just the slightest hint of a run on ammunition could easily trigger another inventory squeeze on the overall ammo market.

Scott and I also talk about the continued attack on our constitutional rights, especially the Second Amendment. The NRA has been key in lobbying to maintain our 2nd Amendment rights. It is a shame that we must send lobbyists to protect our constitutionally guaranteed rights, but that is the way the game is played. I believe it is very important for everyone who is able to support the NRA and other advocacy groups that fight for freedom.

We talk about the consequences of the national debt and the possible effects of interest rates when they begin to normalize. If 10 year treasury rates were to return to their highs reached during the 1980s, the debt service would outstrip the entire Federal revenue. Last  month, we saw the labor participation rate drop to its lowest level since 1978. The continued downward spiral of the American economy may just be the economic collapse happening in slow motion.

Head on over to Ammunition Depot to check out what specials they have going on right now. There company moto is “when the SHTF, lead will be worth more than gold.”

New Prepper Fiction Book! American Exit Strategy, Book One of the Economic Collapse Chronicles

After a long editing process by my diligent wife, my first book is finally available on Amazon.com in paperback and on Kindle. If you are a fan of dystopian and survival fiction, you will love American Exit Strategy. I have tried to use the book as a platform to educate as well as entertain. There are tons of great tips on prepping and some very easy to understand explanations of the financial challenges our country is facing.

American Exit Strategy synopsis:

America is on the cusp of financial annihilation. Matt and Karen Bair face the challenges of Main Street during a full scale financial meltdown. Government borrowing and monetary creation have reached their limits. When funds are no longer available for government programs, wide spread civil unrest erupts across the country. Matt and Karen are forced to move to a more remote location and their level of preparedness is revealed as being much less adequate than they believed prior to the crisis.

Meanwhile,  Paul Randall, a third party presidential candidate arises to push back against the welfare and warfare spending that have bankrupted our country. While he has gained wide spread acceptance, the fight has just begun. Paul Randall proposes a plan to mitigate the coming hyper-inflationary collapse which is a mathematical certainty. His plan is known as The American Exit Strategy.

Family Friendly

You won’t feel embarrassed by the language as I keep it G rated. There are a few scenes of intense action in the book and a couple of good old fashion shoot outs, but I tried to write something the whole family could enjoy.

Check it out today and please let me know what you think!

Top Ten Foods to Store for the Apocalypse

Top Ten Foods to Store for the Apocalypse

If you are new to prepping, you may be wondering what to do for long term storable food. There are a few prepper favorites that can kick start your long term food supply. Most folks who are just starting to prepare are also working on a limited budget. I made sure we started with the low budget picks.

#1 Rice

White rice will store for 20 years if you keep it cool and dry. If you go a step further and put it into Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers, it will last even longer. Make sure it is white rice. Brown rice still contains the bran which makes it more healthy, but it also contains fats which will rot. The shelf life of brown rice is only about 6 months to a year unless it is refrigerated. As far as cost, it is hard to get more bang for the buck than rice. You can purchase a 20 lb bag for under $10. That is a lot of calories for the money.

#2 Beans

Like rice, dried beans have a very long shelf life. Depending on the variety, most beans will keep for 10 years. Like the rices, Mylar liners and oxygen absorbers will  make them last even longer. Beans are an excellent source of protein and fiber. Beans can be bought for under $1 a pound if you buy large bags.

#3 Canned Meat

Canned meat is getting a bit pricier than beans and rice, but a few cans of it will make a nice supplement. You can purchase canned ham, chicken and tuna to give you a quick source of protein. The shelf life is shorter than beans and rice. As long as the cans aren’t dented or rusty, the contents will last indefinitely although the flavor will deteriorate after the expiration date.

#4 Canned Soup

A can of tomato soup or cream of celery will flavor up your beans and rice to give you a bit of a different flavor. As with the canned meat, it will last indefinably but lose flavor after the expiration.

#5 Canned Pasta

In a none emergency situation, canned pasta may be the worst thing you could eat. It is loaded with fat and calories. In a survival situation, especially one that requires strenuous activity, fat and calories are your best friend. Canned pasta is a great food to keep in your bug out bag.

#6 Flour

Flour is the ingredient for many great foods: biscuits, pancakes, bread and cookies. Of course you will need to learn to cook for yourself. That is an easy skill to obtain while we still have the internet.

#7 Sugar

You won’t be able to use your flour to make any cake or cookie without the sugar.

#8 Jelly

Jelly if canned and will last indefinitely. It will also go great on a homemade biscuit.

#9 Peanut Butter

Peanut butter store well without refrigeration and is an excellent source of protein and good fats.

#10 Any dry storage food you can buy with coupons

Coupons are the best way to maximize your budget when trying to stock up for the coming storm. Make sure to hit our coupon corner to learn how to get lots of items to fill your pantry for free or almost free.

seed

Sunday Prepper Bible Study- Perseverance

Luke 8:14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

As Christians, it is easy to get bogged down with the hustle and bustle of day to day life. It seems that all the technology we have created to save us time has left us busier than ever before. All of this running around leaves us with little time left over to spend on spiritual pursuits like reading the Bible or prayer.

In today’s Bible verse, we see that the seed sown among the thorns is choked out. It never develops to be what it was intended to be. The first issue those folks had were worries. It is easy to get caught up in worrying about what may happen, especially with all of the proverbial black swans we have encircle over our head right now. I still believe it is prudent to take some time to prepare for the events that may have a catastrophic impact on our lives. But once you have done your part to prepare, leave the rest up to God. Do your best then let God do the rest.

The next  issue that kept the seed from growing to maturity was riches. Of course we all need to work hard to provide for ourselves, after all the Bible also says in 2 Thessalonians 3:10 “if a man will not work, he shall not eat.” But be content with what God blesses you with and make sure you are taking a day of rest. Even if your job requires you to work on Sunday, set aside a day off that you can rest and spend some time with God.

Finally, the last issue interfering with the seeds growth was pleasures. Maybe you are diligent about taking your day of rest, but for you, that day is spent on the golf course or out on the boat rather than in church. It is great to get out and relax, just make sure you are not doing it at the expense of your spiritual development.

The seed that was able to mature and produce a good crop is said to have done so through perseverance. To grow spiritually, we must persevere by making a priority out of spending time with God. rather than giving God the leftovers, why not start each day with a few verses in  the Bible and a few minutes of prayer. It will start your day of on the right track. While your commuting, gardening or on the treadmill, listen to a sermon by your favorite pastor on mp3. Don’t have a favorite pastor? Then i’ll share mine with you. All of Pastor Chuck Smith’s sermons are available for a free download at TWFT.com.

If you are new to prepping or would like to learn more about how to prepare for tomorrow, please read our 7 Step Preparedness Plan. The most important prep of all is knowing GOD. Jesus said “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his own soul?” Prepper translation: “What good will it do you to survive the coming economic collapse, nuclear war or even a zombie apocalypse if you don’t know you will go to heaven when you die.” A recent study found that 10 out of 10 people die! On that day we will meet our Maker. It only makes sense to be prepared for that day. Click here to learn more about knowing GOD.

Have a blessed week and happy prepping!

9/11 Twelve Years Later

wtc 7

All of us remember exactly what we were doing twelve years ago today. We lived in a different country. It was a more carefree country. We trusted each other, the world and our own government much more than we do now. Our government also trusted us much more twelve years ago than it does now.

Since that day, we have waged war after war and gone deeper and deeper into debt. We have given up many of our freedoms. We no longer have a right to privacy as the NSA snowdrops on our phone calls, emails , and Facebook posts. We are treated like criminals every time we get on a plane and there is a camera peering at us on every traffic light and from every building top.

Benjamin Franklin said “Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.“

Today is a day to remember those who were lost and the country we once had. The people who lost their lives that day can never return, but we can fight to get our country back. Since the beginning of our nation, it has never been more important than now to let your congress men know how you feel about constitutional issues.

WTC Building 7

7

On another topic, today is also a day that arouses much confusion. There are those who say 9/11 was a plot that either our own government knew of or was involved in. I hope that is not the case. They claim the motivation of the government was to gain the political capital to advance the police state and instigate war in the Middle East. There is no doubt that those two agendas have advanced successfully.

There is a lack of a smoking gun that gives definitive evidence of such a plot, but among the strongest circumstantial evidence is WTC Building 7. Building 7 also collapsed on 9/11/2001. The building housed Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s bunker that he was supposed to go to in the event of a terrorist attack. Despite the largest terrorist attack on American soil, Giuliani was nowhere near the building at the time of the collapse. Other tenants in the building included Secret Service and the CIA. The building was across the street from the Twin Towers and was flanked by two other buildings that sustained no structural damage.

The official story which was all but completely ignored by the mainstream media was that fires inside weakened the steel support to the pint of failure. This caused the 47 story building that was never hit by a plane or anything else to fall into its own footprint.

As I said, I am unaware of a smoking gun that proves there was a conspiracy, but I think it is always healthy to question everything the government tells us. Whether it is George Bush Senior telling us to read his lying lips that say no new taxes, James Clapper telling us that the NSA would never spy on its own citizens, Obama telling us we can keep our health insurance and the premiums will go down, Bill Clinton saying he did not have sexual relations with an Monica Lewinsky, or any other infamous liar, Washington has proved to us time and time again that they can not be trusted.

Question everything and think for yourself.

Operational Security- What to Say and When to Say It

on September 9, 2013 at 4:14 am
Posted In: Prepping

secret

 Operational Security

Operational Security or OpSec is an important tenet of prepping. In today’s world, the need to keep your cards close to your hand goes beyond the simple motivation to not having the neighborhood show up at your house five minutes after the apocalypse. Yes, that is an important reason. If you have prepped for your family, and no one else has, they will be expecting you to bail them out. After all, isn’t that the American way? The even more important reason to keep your trap shut is because the government is doing an increasingly thorough job of building a modern equivalent of the East German Stasi. The DHS “If you see something say something.” campaign now has children ratting out their classmates for eating their pop tart into the shape of a gun. All common sense has been thrown out the window. All it takes is one phone call from a concerned citizen about your oversized pantry, and you are getting a one way ticket to the exotic island of Cuba to stay at the fabulous Guantanamo spa and resort.

What Can We Say?

Take it slow. Obviously it would be preferable to talk to your neighbors about prepping before it hits the fan. Start out seeing what they think about potential threats like the economy.  Slowly present evidence about why we need to prepare. If you live in a hurricane zone or area that is prone to earthquakes or tornadoes, that is an easy segue into the conversation. Once you know they won’t call Big Brother because you have nine boxes of pasta, go a bit further.

The minute you start to get resistance, back off. If you are trying to wake up your neighbor to the impending economic collapse, they are not going to want to believe it at first. If they are not prepared, to acknowledge that you are right means their world is in jeopardy. Be patient with them and let them digest each little nugget of truth. Give them a fun fact here and there about the national debt, derivatives or future lack of Social Security funding. Detroit is always a good opener for that conversation.

Never Tell Everything

In the spirit of teaching, sometimes it is necessary to expose some degrees of your preparedness. Like everything else, there is never a reason to show it all at once. If you need to show a neighbor what you have done, because they want to learn how to do it themselves, keep it on a need to know basis. Be smart, feel people out and trust your instinct. Focus on keeping a proper balance of teaching and operation security and you will be fine.

Sunday Prepper Bible Study- Proverbs 3:5&6

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

James Wesley Rawles has the moniker of “The Godfather of Prepping”. He has written the book series which include Patriots, Survivors, and Founders. His new book Ex-Patriots is coming out in October. James Rawles had also written How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It. His website, Survival Blog.com is perhaps one of the most well known preparedness sites around. His background is in military intelligence and he is an absolute wealth of knowledge when it comes to prepping. James Rawles has been interviewed by many different interviewers who quiz him for his survival knowledge. In all of his most recent interviews, James Wesley Rawles cites the most important thing a prepper can do is pray to God and ask him that he will put you in the right place at the right time and with the right people.

I will have to agree with Mr. Rawles. Seeking God and making time each day to read His Word, pray or listen to  Bible studies is the best way to stay connected to Him to make sure you are getting the direction you need to stay on the right path.

Josh built several compartments which contain bug out essentials like water, long term storage food, a camping stove, water filters, a first aid kit and several other must have items.

20130828_194557

Above the storage compartment is a sleeping platform. The platform is padded so make bugging out in the truck more comfortable. It may not seem like a necessity, but you will need a good night sleep in order to function well under the tremendous added stress if you ever need to bug out.

Between the two storage compartments is a large storage area. This area could be used to quickly stash more food, a rifle or shotgun ammunition, and other survival gear.

Josh also keeps extra fuel in the truck. To generate power, Josh has an inverter that can quickly be attached to the battery terminals to deliver electricity for needed appliances.

The bug out truck offers a higher degree of readiness than the conventional bug out bag. In some disasters, those who get out fast are the only ones who get out at all.

Barter After The Collapse- Items to Keep on Hand and What to Avoid

Barter After The Collapse- Items to Keep on Hand for Trading After it Hits the Fan

The inevitable death of the dollar will bring chaos and shortages of many items we take for granted right now. Today’s post will take a look at what are some good barter items and even what are some bad ideas for  barter.

One of the biggest challenges for keeping barter items is space. Large bulky barter items are going to be hard to store in significant amounts. A few small items that will be as good as gold after the collapse include  pain relievers, hard candy, playing cards, soap, shampoo, and medical supplies. If we experience a major collapse that makes it difficult to be seen by a doctor, antibiotics will be in high demand. Fish antibiotics that are sold online require no prescription and are the same types of antibiotics as prescribed by doctors. They are not regulated to the extent that prescription antibiotics are , so don’t start going to the pet store instead of the doctor. In a collapse scenario, I will take fish antibiotics before I die or lose an arm or leg to gangrene.

Precious Metals

Precious metals are a great means of preserving your wealth. Gold and silver have been considered money since Genesis 13. In a complete grid down scenario, practical items may have more value than gold and silver until society begins to rebuild. Once that happens, gold and silver will once again have purchasing power. In a barter situation, silver will be more practical than gold for smaller transactions. A one once silver coin in currently worth about $25. A one ounce gold coin is worth about $1400. It might be a little hard to get change for a $1400 bill. I still recommend diversifying between gold and silver, but I personally think it is worth the higher premium to purchase fractional gold coins to have the smaller denomination. Gold coins are available in 1/2, 1/4, and 1/10 ounce sizes. I use JM Bullion as they offer the lowest price over spot. If you decide to go with JM Billion to purchase metals, use coupon code PR5 to get $5 off your order of$300 or more.

Ammunition

We saw ammunition shortages sparked by the Sandy Hook tragedy last year that depleted supplies for nearly 6 months. With the addition of government ammunition hoarding, prices skyrocketed and producers were unable to keep up. It doesn’t take much imagination to envision a world where ammunition is used a tradable commodity. If silver represents large bills after the collapse, we might expect ammunition to play the role of $10, $5, and $1 dollar bills.

Alcohol and Tobacco

I often hear peppers who don’t drink or smoke talk about hoarding alcohol and tobacco for barter items. I think this is a bad idea. In a situation where resource scarcity has driven people to a barter economy, people who are expending their limited resources on alcohol and tobacco are addicts. By bartering with them, you are bringing people around you that have made vices their priority. When they expend all of their resources to get a bottle and a pack of smokes, where do you think they will look to attack when they get hungry? Because they have been trading with you, they will have a pretty good idea about how well you are set. It is a potential for trouble you don’t need. If you are addicted to alcohol, tobacco or drugs, now is the time to get free of those chains. It will be much harder with the added stress of the apocalypse.

The odds of a currency collapse.

The odds of a complete currency collapse are 100%. There has never been a fiat money system that did not return to its intrinsic value which is nothing. This is not tin foil hat conspiracy theory, it is history. If the odds of your house burning down were 100%, would you buy fire insurance?
