Sunday Prepper Bible Study- The Coming Judgement- Pt 1
Let’s look at the very first chapter in the very first book of prophecy and see if we can spot any parallels between ancient Israel and America.
How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers. Isaiah 1:21
America was certainly once full of judgement and righteousness, but now we’ve murdered over 60 million children since Roe vs Wade.
Verse 22 Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water:
US dollars, half dollars, quarters and dimes minted prior to 1965 contained 90% silver.
They now contain no silver, but are made of manganese, zinc, nickel and copper. Zinc being one of the metals listed in the dictionary definition of dross.
The Hebrew word for silver is Kesph, which was synonymous with money. Even today, some cultures use the same word for silver and money.
For example, Plata, in Spanish can refer to either.
The Hebrew word for Dross is seeg which is the same word they used for backsliding.
It’s worth noting that the Hebrews used the same word for impurity and backsliding. I suppose both reduce the value of whatever subject they happen to be associated with.
The second part of the verse says, Thy wine is mixed with water. The Hebrew word used for mixed in this verse is mahal. More than mix, like mixing the ingredients of a cake, Mahal means to weaken, cut down or adulterate.
I think that’s a very accurate description of America in general. Our education system, monetary system, manufacturing base, legal system, and even the American Church itself has largely been weakened, cut down and adulterated.
Next week, we’ll look at some other similarities between America and ancient Israel from Isaiah 1. For this week, focus on purifying the dross in your own life that is affecting your heavenly value. And, guard against the water that wants to dilute the New Wine of the Spirit in your soul.
