Sean from The SGT Report Interview- Prepper Recon Podcast

sgt

Sean and I discuss how the mainstream media have turned the Prism story into the cat and mouse story of Edward Snowden and completely forgotten that the NSA is spying on your every e-mail, phone call, Skype call and Facebook post. We also discussed the car wreck that killed Michael Hastings. Hastings had contacted a lawyer from Wiki-leaks just before the accident to inform him that he believed his life was in danger because of the NSA story he was working on.

Sean gives us his opinion on why the gold price has declined so rapidly over recent weeks. He also explains how the current silver price is below the cost of production. This may be the buying opportunity of a lifetime. If the price stays this low, it will likely drive many miners out of business which will trigger massive supply shortages for a metal that is required for several industrial uses.

We discuss the coming economic collapse and the death of the US dollar. It is a show that you don’t want to miss!

Digital Privacy- Big Brother’s Blind Spot

Digital Privacy-  Big Brother’s Blind Spot

drone

We have surpassed the surveillance state of “1984”

“1984” was written in 1949. George Orwell depicts a society under complete control of the government. With the recent information delivered by people who have risked their lives to tell us the truth like Edward Snowden did, we find that we are being monitored at a much higher level than what is depicted in the book. Winston, the main character in “1984” has found a small blind spot in his kitchen  that cannot be seen by the ever watching electronic eye of Big Brother. He uses this spot to allow his mind to be free. He scribbles in a journal and expresses his innermost feelings of disgust with the oppressive government. The media quickly changes the story of Prism into the cat and mouse story of Edward Snowden to distract Americans from considering what has been lost by the government snooping.

Many people do not feel threatened by the Prism program as they aren’t doing anything wrong. I will remind those people that the Jews in Germany tolerated many minor offenses in the years that lead up to being loaded into the cattle cars. Like you, they had done nothing wrong, so why would they have any thing to worry about? The moral of the Holocaust is that a government doesn’t build a police state unless they intend to use it. What people group do you belong to? Is your opinion in favor with the people who are in power now? If so, do you know your opinion will still be in favor after the next election cycle?

Here are a few practical steps that you can take to protect your digital privacy. As you practice them, you will become more conscious of how violated your digital privacy has really become. It is not because you are doing anything wrong, it is because the government is. Your business is your business unless someone has a court order signed by a judge that specifies the areas to be searched. The 4th amendment to the Constitution says:

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

5 Steps to reduce your digital footprint:

1.Use a more secure browser like Firefox rather than Explorer or Chrome.

2.You can use a proxy search engine that still gives you Google search results. It is called StartPage and can be added to your list of search engines on Firefox for free. Start page doesn’t cache your searches online. StartPage will also allow you to view your results via proxy as well. This keeps the site you view from being cached online or on your computer. It will take a bit longer to load than a direct view, but if you are looking at sites like PrepperRecon.com that may mark you as a patriot, constitutionalists or conservative, it may be worth the extra few seconds.

3. You can use a free encryption program called TruCrypt to encrypt data stored on your home computer. It will take you about a half an hour to read the instructions and be using spy level  encryption to protect your documents and information from prying eyes. It can also be used to encrypt normal flash drive. While less secure than the computer version, it is still hard to get into unless someone really knows what they are doing.

4. There are encrypted e-mail solution that are being developed as we speak. MyKolab is operational  but still being developed. They have to turnover your records if required by law, but as they are hosted in Switzerland, they are protected by much more secure privacy laws than most of the rest of the world, especially the USA.

5. Use cash instead of credit. All of your credit card purchases are recorded forever. Also, all of your online purchases are recorded unless you use a computer away from your home and employ a cryptocurrency like bitcoin to make your online purchase.

Trace Myer has set up an entire website dedicated to helping you reduce your electronic foot print. He has several education videos available on his site, HowToVanish.com

Another site that helps you  opt out of the surveillance state is Prism-Break.org. They have lots of outsources to give you more private alternatives to the digital services you use everyday.

You may not be able to disappear overnight, but you can start taking steps to make it harder for the government to infringe upon your constitutional rights.

Protect your digital privacy and happy prepping!

Water Storage for Hurricanes and Disasters

Water Storage for Hurricanes and Disasters

water

How Much?

Tis’ the season to be prepping. Here on the East Coast and also along the Gulf Coast, people are doing some practical prepping as we gear up for hurricane season. One of the most important components to survival is water. Experts say you can only survive for about three days without water. There are a few stories, such as those in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti where survivors went as long as a week without water. Most of those survivors had some type of story of praying every moment or mysterious visitations while they were trapped. I would chalk these events up as miraculous interventions by God. Even to survive three days without water would be extremely painful and could result in permanent damage.

Today’s post will look at several solutions to make sure you have water after the storm and during a disaster. The simplest solution is to purchase bottled water. As we know, this can get pricey and the empty bottles are filling up land fills like crazy. An easy alternative to just buying bottled water is to keep your plastic beverage containers and fill them up. We keep our old juice bottle, rinse them well and store water in them. They are much stronger than milk jugs which tend to leak if you store water in them for long periods of time. Another type of strong beverage container is 2 liter soda bottles. Wash and rinse them well and they will work fine for water storage. I recommend storing a  minimum of 10 days worth of drinking water. Just for drinking and cooking, each member of your family will need 1 gallon per day and allocate a half gallon per day for each pet.

What If I Run Out?

Water storage can take up a lot of space. But it is possible that you could be in a situation that requires you to go longer than 10 days with out your regular supply of water. One great alternative source of water is a rain catch system. Food grade barrels can be placed under gutters to catch the rain run off from your roof. Click here to read an entire post on building a rain catch system.

Last weeks interview with Zion Prepper on out Prepper Recon Podcast talked about some unique ways of storing water and unconventional places to find water. One of the places Zion Prepper mentioned was you hot water heater. You can access the water in the hot water heater by opening the valve at the bottom of the heater. It is under pressure, so watch out. It should have threads to attach a garden hose to make it easier to control.  It may also need to be purified if your water table has been compromised. Zion Prepper also mentioned plastic water bladders like the Water Bob that can be filled up in your tub to store water. These are about $25.

Water that is taken from outside needs to be purified and/or filtered. Even the run off from your roof needs to be purified and filtered. Contaminants can get into the containers over time. Mosquitoes take up shop in all available water here in Florida. They are known to carry several types of disease, so please purify that water.

Purification and Filters

Water can be purified by boiling it or by using 8 drops of bleach per gallon of clear water or 16 drops of bleach for cloudy water. Once you have used bleach, you can use pitcher water filters like Britta or Pur to remove the Chlorine taste, but those filters are not designed to kill microbial contaminates. You can also purchase water purification tablets to keep in your bug out bag.

There are filters that are designed to remove all levels of contaminates from your water. Depending on the size and price you are willing to pay, you can choose from several types. The Aqua Rain water filter takes up a lot of space but filters large amounts of water. Katadyn makes several models of water filters that will easily fit into a bug out bag. These filters are light and portable and can be used to bug out or to bug in. They range in price from about $400 to under $100. All of these filters are available through Camping Survival.com.

Make your preparations now. Once the crunch is on, you will have enough stress without worrying about what you are going to drink.

Happy Prepping!

Remaining In The Vine- Sunday Prepper Bible Study

vine

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

As Christians, we feel it is our duty to be nice, to be patient, to not get disturbed when the markets are shaken and to stay cool when we lose our job. Guess what, it’s not our job. No, that doesn’t mean you can act like a jerk every time things don’t go your way. It means that if you want to be patient, kind and full of peace, you have to dedicate time to be with Jesus. By abiding in the vine, the branch gets its life giving nutrients that allow it to bear fruit.

If you are just going to church on Sunday, you are not likely to be very fruitful. You have to spend some part of each day with the Vine. I try to dedicate my first few minutes in the morning to praying. I then try to play a few worship songs as i stretch out and begin my day. As i have my breakfast,
I try to read a couple of chapters in The Bible. When I am not consistent with these disciplines, or do it with a half hearted effort, my fruit suffers. My kindness goes out the window, I have no peace and I am not very kind. I cannot will myself to produce these atributes, but when I make a priority out of being with Jesus, they just happen naturally. We are likely to see many dark days ahead. We will need that peace that can only come from remaining in the Vine.

If you are new to prepping or would like to learn more about how to prepare for tomorrow, please read our 7 Step Preparedness Plan. The most important prep of all is knowing GOD. Jesus said “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his own soul?” Prepper translation: “What good will it do you to survive the coming economic collapse, nuclear war or even a zombie apocalypse if you don’t know you will go to heaven when you die.” A recent study found that 10 out of 10 people die! On that day we will meet our Maker. It only makes sense to be prepared for that day. Click here to learn more about knowing GOD.

Have a blessed week and happy prepping!

Bugging In With Zion Prepper- Prepper Recon Podcast

Bryan Foster, AKA Zion Prepper has just finished a new book called: A Guide To Sheltering- In-Place. Bryan is a US Navy veteran, prepper and family man. He has a MS in chemistry, and a MS in management. Bryan has written several other books including The Christian preppers Handbook, The Preppers Handbook  and The Preppers Survival Guide: An Introduction to Prepping and a Guide to Fire.

A Guide to Sheltering In Place is out just in time for hurricane season. People here on the East Coast as well as people who live on the Gulf Coast are getting ready to potentially shelter in place. I lived in South Florida during Hurricane Wilma and went without power for two weeks. When there is no power, the grocery stores are closed, and in some instances, there is no water. Hurricanes are not the only events that can cause people to go without the systems of support. Earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, ice storms, chemical spills and civil unrest can make it impossible or inadvisable for people to leave their homes. Once the event occurs, it is too late to prepare.

Today’s show is filled with practical tips to prepare to bug in or shelter in place.

Gold and Silver- What Happened?

Gold and Silver- What Happened?

gold

Speculation is running rampant in trying to figure out what is happening in the metals market. Jim Rickards told Max Kieser on the Kieser report that it is possible that China is manipulating the price in order to be able to purchase more metal at a lower price. The recent comments by Ben Bernanke caused a momentary liquidity crisis as global markets digested the thought of the money spigot being turned down. Interest rate shot up like a rocket causing people to sell everything. Andy Hoffman recently told Financial Survival Network that production costs of silver are now higher than the metal. He expects this to cause many miners to go out of business which could trigger sever inventory shortages in the future. Shortages equal higher prices. The bottom line is that no one knows what the fiat price of metals will be tomorrow or even next year. What we do know is they have a historical track record of holding their value where fiat currencies have historical track records of loosing value steadily over time until they collapse. Gold and silver have been considered stores of value since Genesis 13:1 “Abram had become very wealthy in livestock and in silver and gold.” The US dollar has only existed in its current completely fiat form since 1971 and has lost 75% of its value since then. You decide which one you trust.

Gold and silver have suffered steep declines in recent months. Is it time to get out? Historically speaking, when everyone was most panicked, it was the time to buy. There is a very high probability that people will look back on these prices and kick themselves for not buying more metal than they did. While PrepperRecon.com does not offer investment advice, I do speak about my personal strategies. My target is always to keep 10% of my total assets in physical gold and silver. A great strategy is to make a regular schedule of purchasing small amounts. That is called dollar cost averaging. If a person has been purchasing silver and gold every month or every other month, the price fluctuations have been averaged out by the systematic plan.

Every good financial plan starts with a budget. You have to keep track of what is coming in and what is going out. Once you have that on paper and are able to actually live by it, you can begin to set aside some amount each month for savings. The first thing you want to do with those savings is to set aside six months expenses worth of cash. This money is not to invest, prepare for teotwawki, buy a new car or allocate to silver or gold. This money just sits there and depreciates. This is your catastrophic insurance fund. If you loose your job, if there is a hurricane and you have to bug out, if you are forced to shoot an intruder and need bail and a lawyer, this money is there to get you through the toughest times of life.  You can put it in an interest baring savings account if you can find one and if you trust banks. I recommend keeping some portion of that money outside of the banking system all together. I would keep at least 1 months worth in a well secured place like a home safe or hidden well on your property.

Once the six month cushion is taken care of,  you may then proceed to allocate your savings to investing, wealth preservation and prepping. My recommendation is to create an envelope system where a certain percentage goes into a dedicated  envelope each week. Perhaps you want to dedicate 10% to investing, 5% to prepping and 5% to wealth preservation through gold and silver. Like most people, I do not consider gold and silver to be investments. For those who look at them as long term wealth preservation instruments, they have not been shaken by the recent price drops. Those people, like the Chinese and Indians, have been taking advantage of these great deals.

When I think of an investment, I think of something that produces income like rental real estate or solid dividend stocks. For myself, I seek to maintain  diversification so that no one market crash can wipe me out. There is wealth of knowledge out there to  offer investment tips. Just make sure you know what you are doing if you take on the challenge yourself and do not put all of your eggs in one basket. One great resource I use is Follow The Money Daily. They speak about specific recommendations and overall investment strategies. Jerry at FTMDaily also produces a weekly podcast that I listen to every week.

If you do decide to take advantage of the current gold and silver prices, shop around to find the best deal. You will probably find out, like I did, that JM Bullion has the lowest over spot price. You can also use coupon code PR5 to get $5 off any order over $300. They have no minimum to purchase and their $10 shipping charge makes it cost effective to purchase a little at a time so you can practice dollar cost averaging to smooth out market volatility. At the time of this writing, they were offering a special on Silver Maple Leaves at $2.45 over spot.

Backup Power-Prepping on a Budget

Backup Power-Prepping on a Budget

bestek

Hurricane season is here and for preppers on the east coast, it is a time to review our preps. Once you have your beans, bullets and band-aids covered, you can think about back up power. We are all subject to losing power in an electrical storm, but here on the east coast, we could go for weeks without power.

The most obvious solution to having backup power is a generator. The downside to generators is their size. If you are working with limited storage space, it may be difficult to find storage for that big machine. Plus, you can’t bring it in the house once you have gas in it.

An easy alternative to a generator is an inverter. An inverter can be hooked up to run off of your car battery while you run the car engine. I just bought a Bestek inverter from amazon for $65. It produces 1000 watts which is enough to run my refrigerator plus a few other small devices. By keeping a full tank of gas and 8 extra gallons in my shed, I can keep the fridge cool for several days. To keep the fridge cold, you only have to run the power for a couple hours a day.

Another great advantage to having an inverter is that you can also purchase an extra deep cycle battery to run for the first few hours of the power outage. That will buy you a few more hours of power before you have to hook the  inverter up to your car.

Once you get the deep cycle battery, you are halfway to having a solar power system. A couple of good solar panels and a charge controller will now give you renewable energy in the case of a long term outage from terrorism or other unforeseen factors. The solar panels connect to the charging regulator which charges your deep cycle battery. You can then connect the same inverter that you were using on the car battery to the deep cycle battery, which is being charged from the solar panels. There is nothing difficult to it. The diagram below will give you a simple visual of how they connect to each other.

system

If you purchase a complete solar power system, you may qualify for the solar tax credit which will allow you to deduct up to 30% of the cost of your system from your total tax liability. $65 is a low price to pay to insure your food in your fridge and it is the foundation to a solar power system that you can piece together as you go.

Happy Prepping!

Sunday Prepper Bible Study- Amos Warns of Destruction

sunset on the ground dried by dryness

“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord,“when I will send a famine through the land—not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.” Amos 8:11

Amos was an old testament prophet who tried to warn the leadership of the coming judgement. GOD spoke through him to tell the political and religious leaders what was coming their way. In Amos chapter 7, the head priest, Amaziah accuses Amos of starting a conspiracy against the king. He then tells Amos to get lost. He informs Amos that they are not interested in hearing his warnings anymore and he should find some other place to prophesy.

At some point, GOD will quit pleading with a nation to do the right thing. If the inhabitants of the land  have no interest in what GOD has to say, he will leave them alone. Once that nation gets GOD to leave them alone, they will be free to live their lives they way they see fit, but they should not expect his help in their hour of need. In America, the liberal left echoes the pleas of Amaziah to be left alone. The GOD fearing among us must be sure our voices are heard over them.
