Sunday Prepper Bible Study- Persecuted

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye , when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely , for my sake. Rejoice , and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Matthew 5:10-12

Who would have thought we’d have so many opportunities to be persecuted for the sake of Christ in this nation? The pictures above are of a US Marine who was court martialed for refusing to remove a Bible verse from her desk, the owners of a bakery in Oregon who were sued out of business for refusing to participate in a homosexual wedding, and a county clerk jailed for not issuing marriage licenses to sodomites.

The fact is that religious persecution, at least for Christians, is becoming the norm in America. If you count yourself a true follower of the Messiah, your day of testing is coming. Have you thought about how you might be tried? If you are asked to deny Christ through your actions at work have you purposed in your heart how you will react? Mental planning and spiritual preparedness are very important. Kim Davis had already made up her mind that she would not bow before the throne of Satan, no matter what. If she hadn’t, she would have most likely compromised, like so many will in the days to come.

Part of being prepared for religious persecution comes from being prayed up and full of faith. Dedicate some time each morning to get on your knees and talk to God. It also comes by being full of faith; and faith comes by hearing, so make sure you are in the Word of God daily.

Christians need to consider what they will do when persecution cuts off their income. All three of the people pictured on the top of the page faced financial hardship due to their decision. If you get on a strict budget right now, you can start squirreling away money for when your day comes. If you never lose your income due to religious persecution, you can use that money to help out your Christian bothers and sisters who do, and thereby share in their blessings in the age to come.

If you still think you live in a free country, wake up. If you call yourself a Christian and think any of these three people should have just went along, examine your faith and make sure you are really saved. If you’ve been sitting on the side lines politically because you’re just to busy to get involved, re-access your priorities and get in the fight. Otherwise, you may soon be sitting in a cell, with plenty of time for regret.

Jesus said “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his own soul?” Prepper translation: “What good will it do you to survive the coming economic collapse, nuclear war or even a zombie apocalypse if you don’t know you will go to heaven when you die.” A recent study found that 10 out of 10 people die! Sunday Prepper Bible Study- Mutual Assistance Groups

Two are better than one;because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall , the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth ; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together , then they have heat : but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken .
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Last Friday’s movie was about mutual assistance groups. This is a relatively new term, not because the wisdom has been hidden for eons, but rather because of our modern culture of alienation. We live in a society of people who are only connected through FakeBook and Twitter. Many people don’t even know the names of their next-door neighbors. The modern mega-church movement even allows us to go to church every Sunday and never see the same person twice. We return to work on Monday, sit in an isolated cubicle, and our anonymity continues.
In the years gone by, there was a natural sense of community in the neighborhood and a culture of looking after one another in the church. In our modern age, we have to make a conscious effort to fight back against the trend to isolate and survive on our own. Many larger churches have began to offer small group fellowships that mimic the experience of a little country church. Of course, there’s always the real thing if you look hard enough.
Solomon points out the wisdom of having a network of people who can help one another when times are tough in Ecclesiastes 4. He talks about the synergistic returns when a group works toward a common goal and about safety in numbers. Regardless of how well-prepared you are, you’ll never be able to stand guard 24 hours a day. The lone-wolf mentality doesn’t pan out very well even when times are good, but it definitely won’t work when the stuff hits the fan.
Church is the natural and best place to try to make connections for a mutual assistance group. Of course, if the leadership frowns on preparedness and doesn’t see the threats facing our country, you’re not likely to find many healthy congregants that understand either. Find a good church with an awake pastor, and you’ll find congregants that will be a good fit for a mutual assistance group.
