Sunday Prepper Bible Study- Nehemiah 4:9

But when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites and the men of Ashdod heard that the repairs to Jerusalem’s walls had gone ahead and that the gaps were being closed, they were very angry. They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat. Nehemiah 4:7-9

Last week, we talked about opposition and how it can be confirmation that you’re on the right track. I put last week’s verse in with today’s to provide some context. In verse 9, we see what Nehemiah’s response to the opposition was. Notice that he didn’t give up and say “Well the enemy is plotting against us so this must not be God’s will.” He didn’t just pray and put it all in God’s hands. Neither did he take on the problem completely in the flesh by simply posting a guard. No. First he prayed, trusting God to do his part, then he posted a guard and accepted his responsibility in meeting the threat with physical force. God doesn’t want you to try fix every problem by yourself. He also doesn’t want you to dump it in his lap and walk away. He wants you to work with him in solving the issue. Co-laboring with someone, particularly through a hardship builds a deep, unbreakable relationship, which has always been God’s  number one priority.

Prepper Recon Contributing to Voices of Liberty

Those of you who have been following Prepper Recon for any amount of time or have read any of my books know how instrumental Dr. Ron Paul has been on my views about economics, politics and individual liberty. So, you can imagine how honored I was to be asked to contribute articles to Voices of Liberty. For those of you who may not be acquainted with Voices of Liberty, it is yet another project Dr. Paul has taken on in an effort to restore the lost Republic. Through his time in the US Congress, Dr. Paul took on corruption from both sides of the aisle and consistently fought against the warfare and welfare spending that has left our country gasping for air and in $18 Trillion of debt. He is fighting against the state-run conditioning centers disguised as public schools through his home-school curriculum. Voices of Liberty is Ron Paul’s attempt to free the press from corporate control and continue to teach Americans about individual liberty, free market economics and the principles which our founders had in mind when they pledged their blood and treasure to build this country.

I’ll be working with Voices of Liberty by writing exclusive companion articles that will accompany episodes of the Prepper Recon Podcast. One of Dr. Paul’s key talking points has always been that our current monetary policy and profligate national spending habits are unsustainable. When the bill comes due, our country is in for a period of economic adjustment which will be hard on everyone and impossible for those who have not taken steps to prepare. I’ll be doing my part to encourage everyone in the Liberty Movement to begin living on a budget, developing skills to be more self-sufficient and hedging themselves for the day when fiat currencies fail and the promises of the nanny state can no longer be fulfilled.

Freedom is about all of us standing up together and demanding that our leaders adhere to the Constitution. We still have a small ember of liberty burning in the hearts of the few. Anytime you set out to accomplish any task that God has put before you, you should expect opposition from the enemy. This spiritual principle is so reliable that if I’m not experiencing opposition when taking on a new project, I have to pray over it to make sure that I’m in God’s will. Adversity has become a very dependable source of confirmation for me for everything from this website and my books to trying to sell my house. If the trolls are posting hate-filled comments, if the website is getting hacked, if personal problems are coming up to distract me from sticking to my schedule, I can be sure that its the enemy trying to throw a wrench in the works and that I’m on the right track. On the other hand, you must always pray for discernment. Sometimes, God can speak to you through circumstances. He can close doors for your protection. When he does, we have to have the wisdom to leave them shut. If you are walking with him, you’ll know in your spirit why the circumstances are what they are. An attack against a God-ordained project feels very different than a door that God has closed.

Friday Night at The Movies- To Tor or not to Tor

Tonight’s first  movie is from DefCon 21 on the Tor Browser. It points out some concerns about Tor but leaves us with the final thought that it is probably safer to use Tor than not.

Tonight’s  second movie is an episode of Security Now which has the latest information regarding the vulnerabilities of Tor. It may not be as reliable as we thought for anonymous web surfing. The discussion on Tor begins at minute 40:45. With the disclaimer that I’m jut above the level of “computer illiteracy,” Tor does provide a different IP address to the the sites you visit. While that may be easily overcome by the NSA, it does seem that it would require more work for the surveillance state which drains their resources. I’m all about that.  Tor also limits the amount of information that you are volunteering to data collection points like Google who sell your info to the highest bidder. It wouldn’t take an act of congress for the NSA or CIA to form a shell corporation to act as a marketing company which could purchase everything from Google, Facebook and Twitter that you’ve ever posted.

My final recommendation is, whether you decide to use TailsOS or not,  use the Tor browser  with Start Page for your search engine. While no solution is a silver bullet for on-line security and anonymity against Big Brother, using anything that requires more resources for the NSA to crack is a great way to let them know that you don’t appreciate being  spied on. I would liken it to voting for a constitutional candidate for president even if you know they could never defeat the Democrat or Neo-Con candidates. I think it’s important to not have a false sense of security about Tor’s ability to protect you, but it is still an act of protest. And while advances have most likely been made since the Snowden leaks in 2012, as of the time of his last employment, the NSA had “major problems following users across the Tor network.”
