I’ve used this verse before for the Sunday Prepper Bible Study, but it is one of my favorite prepper verses, so I’m going to use it again in a slightly different light. Last time, we looked at it in terms of food storage. Let’s think of it today in terms of saving money. Benjamin Franklin was fond of the saying, “A penny saved is a penny earned.” Let’s fast forward through time where the penny has been devalued into oblivion by being taken off of the gold standard and unprecedented monetary creation. Perhaps “Ten dollars saved is ten dollars earned” would have been our founders saying. Or perhaps, if Ben Franklin were alive today, his saying could have been “Ten dollars saved is twenty dollars earned.” After all, Ben Franklin was part of a generation that wouldn’t stand for a tax on tea or playing cards. The modern patriot, however, is subject to a tax at every turn. The median income in America is $51,000 which carries a 25% federal tax rate. Add on Social Security and Medicaid and you’ll have another %15 when you add the employee and employer contributions. Most states carry an income tax and a sales tax which exceed 10% when combined. Before you’ve even considered Obamacare which the Supreme Court ruled as a tax, 50% of your earnings are out the door. You still have property tax, which should be called rent, because we all know that you never really own your property in a communist system like we have in the US.

So what is the answer? For one, get involved and quit voting for the lesser of two evils. If you can’t find someone worthy of your vote this November, go to the poles and write your own name in.

Secondly, do everything you can to shave expenses off of your budget. Just with federal and state taxes taken into consideration, ten dollars saved is twenty dollars earned. In other words, every ten dollars you don’t spend is twenty dollars you don’t have to earn. Once you add in Obamacare, property tax, gasoline tax with the resources you had to expend to earn the income in the first place, ten dollars saved may be closer to thirty dollars earned.
