Amendments 3 and 7 Still In Tact!

As far as I can tell, Amendments 3 and 7 of the Bill of Rights are still in tact. They seem to have survived 4 and 1/2 years of the present administration. I often point out the short comings of US government and rarely give applause to what is still right. While the other 8 Amendments to The Constitution have been all but abolished, today we celebrate 3 and 7.

Amendment III

No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

Amendment VII

In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

Let’s enjoy them while they last. This administration still has 3 1/2 more years to completely eradicate The Bill of Rights. As for the other 8, let us take a moment to remember them as they once were.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I am sure we are all aware that this Amendment is no longer enforced. The recent wire taping and e-mail hacking by the DOJ ensures that the press will always fear the government and stay in line. Likewise, groups using words like “Constitution”, “Tea Party”, and “Patriot”. have been targeted by the IRS as a means of intimidation. King George must be rolling in his grave. Had he known the American people would be intimidated so easily, he could have focused more on France.

Amendment II

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

While falling far short of her goal of banning all weapons of every sort except those used to police, temporizer and suppress a free people, Diane Fienstien can be proud that her rhetoric helped Andrew Cuomo ban most modern pistols in the state of New York. The NY 7 round magazine limit effectively banned most all types of semiautomatic pistols. Most manufacturers of these pistols do not make 7 round magazines. This law renders them unusable.

Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

In case you missed the video footage of the search for the Boston bombing suspect on YouTube, here is a link to a video featuring US citizens being dragged from their homes at gun point, then led down the street to be frisked like criminals. Of course it was not covered by the mainstream media because they are to scared of the DOJ.

Amendment V

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Amendment VI

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

Amendment VIII

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

The 2012 National Defense Authorization Act contained a provision that allows the government to arrest a US citizen without charging them and to detain them indefinitely without bail. This provision directly violates Amendments IV,V, VI, and VIII.

Amendment IX

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Not only have those right not enumerated been trampled under foot by an ever growing all consuming government, but those that were specifically granted have been tossed out the window while we have enjoyed our bread and circuses.

Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The federal government has assumed power never intended for itself. It has taken the place of state government in the arena of education and made a mess of the entire system. It has intruded into the business of the Church and turned charity into a means of purchasing votes through social welfare programs. It has set itself as master and will force us to purchase health insurance by the barrel of a gun. If you think I am being over dramatic about health care, try not purchasing the mandated policy, then try not paying the fine imposed by the IRS. See how long it takes before you are staring down the barrel of a gun.

The author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson said ”

“When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty.”

If you are not mad, you are not paying attention.

The Antichrist is a popular topic among Christians and preppers these days. We see ever increasing disturbances in the weather and rumblings in the earth. When asked by His disciples about the signs that will signal the end of the age, Jesus says in Matthew 24:7 “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.” The Greek word for “earthquakes” is “sicemos”. Sicemos was used to describe earthquakes as well as other atmospheric disturbances. The Strong’s Dictionary definition is “a commotion, that is, (of the air) a gale, (of the ground) an earthquake:-earthquake. tempest.” So this word could very easily include tornadoes and hurricanes. We have certainly seen  many tornadoes this past week and our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. 

Knowing that it is possible that we are living in the last days, people begin to speculate on who the Antichrist might be. Pastor Bob Coy, my pastor at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale gave a very level headed biblical study on what we should expect in the person of the Antichrist last week.

Today’s guest on the Prepper Recon Podcast is Steve Gorman of Patriot K9 Services. Patriot K9 Services trains German Shepards and Dutch Shepards for explosives detection and personal protection.  Patriot Dog K9 Services worked with the US military in Afghanistan and Iraq training dogs and their handlers to find Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The dogs keen sense of smell allows them to find explosive materials that would not be easily detectable by other means. The dogs trained by Patriot K9 Services found several tons of explosive materials. This resulted in many lives being saved from a catastrophic end.

Now, this same level of expertise and training that has been available only to the military is available for your home or  prepper group. Personal protection or explosives detection dogs are also available to domestic law enforcement agencies. I had a conversation a while back with a coworker about the need to be prepared in case things get worse economically. I am always careful to ease my way into such conversations. if you spoke people, they will not take you seriously and write off everything you say.  My argument was the fact that the spending on welfare and warfare were out of control. The only reason we have not seen a complete meltdown yet was because the Fed was kicking the can down the road through QE. While QE does delay the inevitable, it also makes our day of reckoning exponentially worse with each new round of money printing.

Not at all an unintelligent guy, my friend did give some attention to markets and the economy. His response was one of normalcy bias and the type of blind ignorance that has been fed to him through the mainstream media. He said he trusts that the people in charge of the economy and the government were aware of the problems that we had and that they would be able to handle them.

I think he represents a large portion of the country. They simply trust the government and policy makers.I quickly jumped on youtube to find some July 2005 footage of Ben Bernanke telling Maria Bartoromo on CNBC   “I guess I don’t buy your premise. It’s a pretty unlikely possibility. We’ve never had a decline in house prices on a nationwide basis.” After the bubble had begun to pop, he was back on CNBC to say that the crisis would be contained to the sub prime market. The video below is a compilation of Ben Bernanke making that famous statement and several other positive predictions that didn’t pan out.

Bernanke was Wrong

Putting faith in our current leaders is a mistake. To do so is to miss your opportunity to prepare for the inevitable collapse. It is a lesson that has been learned by many societies throughout history. The Romans made that mistake. The citizens of Zimbabwe, Argentina and Iceland have all made that mistake. All their financial systems have suffered complete and total collapse. It would be much easier to learn from their mistakes than to learn this one from your own misplaced confidence.

Now that we know The Fed chairman was wrong time after time, the question remains as to whether he was lying or just incompetent. Both cases are possible and I don’t know which would be preferable. For the head of the most powerful central bank in the world to have no clue about how economics work is very frightening. I think the more likely explanation is that he must lie. Confidence is the lifeblood of markets. If Ben Bernanke told the truth, they would collapse.

Who Saw the Crash Coming?

I think it is not only the Chairman of The Federal Reserve who knows our coming demise. I think DHS and every other agency is well aware of the pain in our future. This would certainly explain the recent purchases of ammunition and armored vehicles by an agency tasked with domestic tranquility. Don’t listen to what they say, watch what they do. Follow the money, that will tell you what they know.

If you are determined to believe anyone about what the future holds, chose someone who got it right last time. Find the economists who saw the housing collapse coming. Find out if they see only sunshine and rainbows as Ben Bernanke claims. One person who got it right in the housing collapse was Peter Schiff. He wrote about America’s bubble economy and the housing bubble in his 2007 book Crash Proof. Nouriel Roubini also predicted the housing bubble in his 2006 presentation to the International Monetary Fund. In 2002, Ron Paul warned Congress that government intervention in the housing market would cause a bubble.

Did We Dodge a Bullet?

So now that the Dow Jones is at an all time high and housing prices are recovering, they must think everything is peaches and cream, right? peter Schiff’s new book is called The Real Crash. In his daily radio show he speaks of a coming collapse that will dwarf the 2008 crisis. Nouriel Roubini wrote a piece on his website entitled Perfect Storm where he explains factors that could cause a global meltdown. What about Ron Paul? He predicts a complete currency collapse that will result in political and social chaos.

The guys with the track record for being right have very little encouraging news. The men who are at the helm either have no clue, are lying or are actually orchestrating the collapse. Either way, the end result is economic ship wreck. Share this information with as many people as possible. Every person who prepares is one less that you will have to feed or fight off when it hits the fan. Get yourself prepared. If you need direction, read our 7 Step Survival Plan.

2 Chronicles 7:13 “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

 

The Bible teaches that there is a direct correlation between  tragedy falling on a nation and that nations unrepentant state. With the present moral climate of our country is would be silly to not expect some serious discipline to come our way. I often wonder which translation of the Bible Christian are reading when they do not see the need to prepare. Yes, I trust God to care for me and keep me from harm, but the Bible is full of recommendations to get involved in looking after yourself and your family.

Today’s Bible verse also encourages us to pray. We need to pray for good leaders that will lead our nation away from it’s wicked direction and back towards a path that God can bless.

Ferfal gives us a nice overview of the causes that contributed to the collapse in Argentina. He gives us a timeline to the mile markers of the financial collapse. We also get a description of his first book and some of the motivating factors behind writing the book.

In the interview, I ask Ferfal to compare some of the common conceptions of American preppers with his experience in a real economic collapse. The Japanese stock market sold off 1,143 points today or 7.32% in one day! This would be the equivalent of a 1,100 point sell off in the Dow Jones Industrial Average which would bring it from it’s record breaking high level of just below 15,400 to around 14,300. This in not a surprising event to those of you who have been watching Japan’s monetary policy. Last month, Japan’s Central Bank announced unprecedented monetary easing. The move would effectively double their money supply in the course of 2 1/2 years. The easy money policy rocketed the Nikkei index from 12,000 in April to over 15,500 this month. This nearly 30% increase in the Nikkei index had nothing to do with rising corporate profits or fundamental improvements in the macro economy, it was simply driven by the fear of getting stuck with a falling Yen. Central bank money printing does not create value. It simply steals value from savers and places that value into the hands of the central bankers. By doubling their money supply in 2 1/2 years, Japan effectively steals half of the value of Yen saved by their citizens and bond purchasers. This flight to anything but Yen created a bubble in the Japanese stock market. The bubble was built on fear rather than fundamentals. The moment confidence eroded, it collapsed.

How Does This Affect Me?

If you think that was Japan and this is America, think again. Besides the fact that we are all globally connected, The US central bank is doing the exact same thing. We are currently inflating the money supply by just over 10% per year. While it may take 9 years to double the money supply rather than 2 1/2 as in Japan, the principles are exactly the same. The only reason we are seeing a recovery in the housing market and all time highs in the stock market are because investors are afraid of being stuck with the US dollar.  Unemployment is still 7.5% by the BLS most sugar coated number. The last time the market hit new highs, unemployment was around 4.5%. The new highs in US markets have nothing to do with the strength of the macro economy. Just like the Japanese stock market, it is another bubble.

How long can it keep going up?

It can keep going up until it doesn’t. Once confidence fails, it would be nothing to see the same type of crash experience by the Nikkei today. Keep your eyes on the Nikkei. If confidence erodes further, contagion could spread throughout all the markets. While the Dow was actually in positive territory at the time of this writing, English, French and German markets had all sold off in excess of 2%. This may not be the big one, but this is how we would expect it to start.

What Do I Do?

If you are not prepared, now is the time to start getting ready. You should stock up at least 6 months worth of food, a means of defending your life and property, medical supplies and means of purifying water. You should have a well stocked bug out bag as well the right shoes in case you need to relocate in a hurry. The American Revolution had a few key incidents that were mile markers for the revolution as a whole. A recent pole reported that 29% of registered voters thought an armed revolution may be necessary to get our government back on track. We all hope that cooler heads prevail and that we can regain our freedom through the political process, but we consistently see our bill of rights being degraded to a distant memory. I see some similarities that were present in the American Revolution that are also echoed in today’s headlines.

The American Revolution began with an irate minority who were upset about taxes that were being exacted from them to pay for a tyrannical empire to fight wars they had no interest in. To protest the taxation, patriots threw a tea party.  Check. Today, we have the TEA party who are tired of shelling out their hard earned money to finance the every expanding welfare and warfare programs that have driven our country to a national debt of nearly $17 trillion dollars and the brink of financial ruin.

In the onset of The American Revolution, the city of Boston was occupied by a military police force. Check. After the recent Boston bombing, the police went house to house dragging people from their homes at gun point. America’s 4th Amendment rights were trampled to find a 19 year old kid. The battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the Revolutionary war. The fighting began over the government’s attempt to seize guns and ammunition. While we have not had such an incident, yet, several state governments have pledged to defend the 2nd Amendment in the event of a national gun ban.

The Boston massacre escalated the rising tensions between the patriots and the government. Patriots were protesting when government soldiers open fired on the crowd. Many in the crowd were killed. This incident also has no equal today but the future is uncertain. On July 4th, Adam Kokesh intends to march on DC in a peaceful protest with loaded weapons. The potential for something to go wrong makes this a  disaster waiting to happen.

In addition, the American Revolution had men like Benjamin Franklin who said “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” It also had men like Samuel Adams that said “If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace.We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.” and men like Thomas Jefferson who wrote the Declaration of Independence which enumerated the tyrannic act of the government. Today we have men like Ron Paul who, while he has retired from Congress, still fights to wake up Americans to defend their freedom. We have men like Rand Paul who stand guard for our freedom and fight against waste in warfare and welfare.

We had the Black Robe Regiment  in The Revolutionary War. They were the pastors and clergy men who prayed for our country at it’s birth. Now, more than ever, we need patriots who will pray for our country. We need to pray that our fellow country men will wake up to the need for God to restore our country to her former glory. We need  to pray for leaders that will adhere to the Constitution. We need to pray that America will turn back to God so we can be blessed by Him once more.

Fishing Cross Bow

Here is a great idea I got from one of my Facebook friends, Donna McKinley. It is a simple way to attach a fishing reel to a cross bow. I will repost the article exactly as I found it and then add my 2 cents.

 

NOTE: If you already have a Barnett Trident II crossbow, count yourself lucky. This product is no longer available in stores. However, the principle described here can be adapted to other models of pistol crossbows. We offer this guide to inspire you to get creative with your own gear.

Here is Viola Brumbaugh’s description of how she mounted a reel on a Barnett Trident II Crossbow.

“The reel mounts to the frame of the crossbow beneath the flight track, using two hose clamps that pass through slots I created in the frame between the trigger guard and the nose of the crossbow. I made each slot by drilling a series of holes in the center of the frame and hollowing out the material between them with a file.

“Then on the bottom of the frame, I marked the length and location of the seat needed for the reel. With a hack saw, I made a series of cuts close together along my mark on the bottom of the frame, then chiseled out the material between the cuts to create a flat smooth surface to seat the reel. Then I sanded the slots and the seat to smooth out the rough edges.

“I use Berkeley 20 lb low stretch Fireline, and back the line on the reel so that the line comes right out to the edge, to minimize any friction as the line pays out.”

  

My 2 Cents

The metal clamps used in the photos are going to be the best thing to use, but zip ties would do in a pinch. For your arrows, you could drill out a small hole through the shaft and run the fishing line through it. Be sure to file off any rough edges in the arrow. There are fishing arrow tips that will expand after impact so the arrow or bolt does not pull out of the fish while you are reeling it in.

We had a recent post on Bug Out Bags. It is such a big topic that it is impossible to cover all the micro issues in putting together a complete bug out bag in one post. The subject could easily fill the pages of at least one book.

One of the things we mentioned in the bug out bag post was a tent. There are as many different varieties of tents as there are cars. They come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. If you are the outdoors type, you may want a tent that is going to be a bit roomier so you can take it camping. If this is the case, also keep in mind the weight and size if you intend to keep it as part of your bug out gear. You will also want to think about waterproofing your tent as well. Outdoor Clothing Shop – Warwickshire Clothing sells a variety of tents online as well as waterproofing spray. You can also put a couple of coats of waterproofing o your boots as well to keep your feet dry in in climate weather.

Much of the same gear that you use for camping will be in your bug out bag as well. When you go camping, you are voluntarily subjecting yourself to a survival situation. In an a collapse scenario, you will be in much of the same situation, only you may have less of a choice about the matter. In addition to a tent, you will likely want a sleeping bag. These also come in a variety of styles and sizes. The mummy bag is designed to conserve heat and to be light weight. It is the most efficient sleeping bag for a bug out bag. Larger bags are much more comfortable but they will weigh your bag down quick.  Be sure to get your gear squared away before it hits the fan.
