Sunday Prepper Bible Study- Romans 12:1-2

I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:1-2 NIV

The last post on PrepperRecon.com was about psychiatric drugs. About 49 million Americans or 15% of the total US population has been prescribed some type of psychiatric drug. The lions share of these prescriptions are for anxiety and depression. Despite being the wealthy country on earth, we are still the most medicated for depression and anxiety. I also mentioned in the last post that depression and anxiety are the opposite of joy and peace.  In Galatians 5:22 we are told that joy and peace are fruit of the spirit. If we don’t have the fruit of the spirit, the problem is that we are not sowing to the spirit. If you plant a banana tree in your back yard it would be silly to expect to pick apples from that tree.

That brings us to today Bible verse. How do we sow to the spirit so we can reap joy and peace? We have to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. That means focusing on the things of God. Personally,  I start everyday with prayer and a chapter or two from the Bible. Several days a week, I listen to a sermon from my favorite pastor, Chuck Smith on MP3. Some days, I  try to sneak in a little time to listen to worship music. I wish I would remember to play worship music more, because when I do, I feel so much more joy.  I also make a priority out of going to church on Sunday. Renewing your mind is going to be a little different for everyone. God made us all different, but it is going to take effort on your part to consciously direct your attention to the things of God.

The first part of verse 2 in today Bible passage is also very important. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world“. We have to be vigilant about what we let into our mind. If you wouldn’t watch that movie with Jesus, maybe you just shouldn’t watch it. I am always so sad to hear God’s name used as a curse word in movies. This leaves our family with very few choices as to what we can watch in the way of  Hollywood movies. It is also limiting what we can watch on regular TV more and more. The sacrifice is so well worth it to know that I have the peace and joy from sowing to the spirit. And in view of God’s mercy and his sacrifice for us, I think it is the very least I can do.

If you are new to prepping or would like to learn more about how to prepare for tomorrow, please read our 7 Step Survival Plan. Come back every Sunday for a new Prepper Bible Study! The most important prep of all is knowing GOD. Jesus said “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his own soul?” Prepper translation: “What good will it do you to survive the coming economic collapse, nuclear war or even a zombie apocalypse if you don’t know you will go to heaven when you die.” A recent study found that 10 out of 10 people die! On that day we will meet our Maker. It only makes sense to be prepared for that day. Click here to learn more about knowing GOD.

Have a blessed week and happy prepping!
